Community Support

Building a strong network of Alabama families who understand the unique USAFA experience — because no parent should navigate this journey alone.

You're Not Alone

The day your son or daughter walked through those gates at I-Day, you joined a community unlike any other. The pride, the worry, the silence during BCT, the milestones, the sleepless nights — every USAFA parent knows this journey in a way no one else quite can.

The USAFA Parents Club of Alabama exists precisely for this: to make sure Alabama families have each other. Whether you're a brand-new appointee family still absorbing the shock of "they got in," or a senior parent counting the weeks to graduation, there is a network of people here who have walked where you are walking — and want to walk it with you.

🤝

🏠

New Family Support

Orientation resources and experienced parent guides to help appointee families understand what to expect from I-Day through Recognition.

🎈

Events & Gatherings

Watch parties, care package drives, potlucks during BCT, and social events that turn a scattered statewide community into real friendships.

🛠

Emergency & Wellness

Financial assistance resources, mental health support, and a parent community that shows up when Alabama families face difficult moments.

"The hardest part of BCT isn't watching your child leave. It's going home to people who don't understand why you're both devastated and the proudest you've ever been."
A sentiment shared by nearly every USAFA parent

Parent Peer Network

One of the most powerful things this club offers isn't a program or an event — it's connection to other parents who are in the same chapter of the same book. We're building a formal peer network pairing families by class year so newer parents always have an experienced guide nearby.

🌎 National Parent Communities

Beyond our club, several national communities welcome USAFA families:

New Family Support

The period between appointment and I-Day is a whirlwind. There is more information than you can absorb, more emotions than you can name, and more questions than anyone can answer quickly. We've been there. Here's what helps.

🏁 Before I-Day: What to Expect

Inprocessing Day (I-Day) is one of the most surreal days of a parent's life. You'll drop off your son or daughter in the morning — in civilian clothes, nervous and excited — and watch from a distance as they begin their transformation. By the time you see them again at the oath ceremony that evening, something has already begun to change.

Tips from experienced Alabama parents:

📧 Communication During BCT

For the first several weeks of Basic Cadet Training, your cadet will have extremely limited communication privileges. Here's the reality:

Events & Gatherings

Community is built in person — over shared food, a football game, or the quiet camaraderie of packing a care box for a cadet you've never met. We're building an annual calendar of events that brings Alabama USAFA families together throughout the year.

🤛 Appointee Sendoff

Before I-Day, we gather to celebrate Alabama's newest appointees and send them off with the full support of our cadet family community. It's a chance for appointees and their families to meet one another before the journey begins.

🏈 Falcon Football Game Sections

USAFA allocates a seating section for parent club members at home football games, giving Alabama families the chance to purchase tickets and sit together in the stands — right there cheering for your cadet alongside families who understand exactly what it means to have one on that field.

Announcements will be made several weeks ahead of select games, so check back here regularly for updates. Join the club to receive notices directly by email.

📦 Care Package Assembly Events

We have plans to organize coordinated care package drives for Alabama cadets — where club members gather to pack and ship boxes together, making sure every cadet at the Academy knows their home state is cheering them on.

This is an initiative we're actively developing and we need volunteers to help make it happen. If you'd like to get involved, reach out to us — your help would make a real difference.

🎉 Regional Gatherings

We organize regional events across the state to make it easy for Alabama families to connect closer to home. Gatherings are typically held in three regions — Northern, Middle, and Southern Alabama — bringing together cadet families in each area for fellowship, updates, and community.

In addition, we host a yearly Appointee Sendoff event for incoming cadets and their families, held at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama. It's a proud send-off tradition that marks the beginning of each new cadet's journey and gives families a chance to celebrate together before I-Day.

Watch for regional event announcements via email and on this page. Join the club to stay informed.

Emergency & Wellness Resources

Sometimes this journey gets hard in ways that go beyond the expected. Medical situations, family emergencies, financial strain, or simply the cumulative weight of watching someone you love do something extraordinarily difficult — these resources exist for those moments.

💦 Air & Space Forces Aid Society (AFAS)

AFAS provides emergency financial assistance to active duty Air Force and Space Force members, including cadets, and their families — through no-interest loans and grants. This is the first call for financial emergencies involving your cadet.

🚪 Red Cross Hero Care Network

The Red Cross Hero Care Network provides 24/7 emergency communication and assistance for military families — including cadets at service academies. If a family emergency requires urgent communication with your cadet, the Red Cross can help.

🧠 Military OneSource — Parent Mental Wellness

Having a child at a service academy is one of the proudest and most emotionally challenging experiences a parent can have. Military OneSource offers free, confidential counseling (up to 12 sessions per issue) available 24/7 to families of service members, including cadet families.

This resource is specifically for you — not just your cadet. The weight parents carry during BCT, during difficult academic stretches, or during any crisis at the Academy is real, and support is available.

✍ USAFA Parent Liaison Team

The Academy's official Parent Liaison Team serves as the bridge between USAFA leadership and cadet families. They monitor parent communications, verify information, and are the right first contact for official Academy matters.

Chaplain & Spiritual Support

Faith and spiritual grounding are part of how many USAFA families navigate the demands of cadet life. The Academy's Chaplain Team is a resource for cadets — and many parents find comfort knowing that chaplains are present for their sons and daughters in difficult moments.

⛩ USAFA Chaplain Team

The Academy's Chaplain Team provides confidential spiritual counseling, guidance, and support for cadets of all faith backgrounds — and no faith background. Chaplains are trained to help cadets navigate stress, identity, purpose, and the demanding moral weight of military training.

  • Cadets can request chaplain appointments confidentially at any time

🙏 For Parents

Many parents in our community find that connecting with others who share their faith backgrounds — and understanding how their cadet can access spiritual support at the Academy — brings significant peace of mind. If you'd like to connect with other Alabama families who share your faith perspective, reach out to us at info@alabamafalcons.org.

The Whole Family Is Welcome

A cadet at USAFA doesn't just affect their parents — the entire family is on this journey. Siblings grow up watching what service and sacrifice look like. Spouses and partners navigate the unique pressures of academy family life. Grandparents burst with pride they can barely contain.

Our community is for all of you.

👪 Siblings of Cadets

Younger siblings watching an older brother or sister go through USAFA are often profoundly shaped by the experience — and may be future candidates themselves. Older siblings carry unique pride and sometimes unique worry. We welcome siblings at our events and are developing programming specifically for them.

💌 Spouses & Extended Family

The Academy experience affects everyone who loves a cadet. Spouses, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and close family friends are all part of the Alabama USAFA family and are always welcome at our events and in our community spaces.

🎓 Alumni Parents

Parents of USAFA graduates carry hard-won wisdom that can't be found in any guidebook. We're building an Alumni Parent Advisory network of families whose cadets have commissioned — available as mentors for families in the earlier stages of the journey. If you're a parent of a USAFA graduate and would like to give back, we'd love to hear from you.
